Gary is a partner at DZH Phillips and also the Executive Member of DZH Phillips Consulting Group LLC.  Throughout his career, Gary has worked with, and consulted for, companies in a wide range of industries including technology, manufacturing, real estate, retail, construction, insurance, service firms and the not-for-profit sector.

Gary has extensive experience in venture and corporate finance, business valuations, high-net worth individual, corporate and partnership taxation and strategic planning. When needed, Gary provides assistance and advice in negotiations with taxing authorities and litigation support.

In addition to his CPA credentials, Gary is a Certified Valuation Analyst and performs business valuations for various purposes including structuring of management buyout and management transition programs, stock option plans, and employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs).

Prior to the formation of DZH Phillips, Gary was a partner at a predecessor firm, Smith, Lange & Phillips LLP.

Education

Gary earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration, a Master of Business Administration from Humboldt State University, and has since pursued additional studies at the University of California at Berkeley.

Gary is an active member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, California Society of Certified Public Accountants and has served on several professional accounting committees. Gary is a former San Rafael City Councilman and former member of the San Rafael School Board.
